Hypnotherapy for Weight Loss
You almost certainly already know what to eat. If knowledge were the obstacle, the problem would have solved itself years ago.
Most people arriving for weight work are not uninformed. They can name the macronutrients, they’ve done the plans, some have lost substantial weight before and found it back. The gap isn’t knowledge. It’s that eating is doing a job that has nothing to do with hunger — soothing, rewarding, numbing, marking the end of the day — and no meal plan addresses a job.
Hypnotherapy for weight loss works on that layer. We identify what the eating is actually for, give that need a route that isn’t food, and change the automatic associations that make certain foods feel compulsory in certain moments.
This is deliberately not a diet. I won’t hand you a meal plan or a calorie target, and if you’re working with a physician, dietitian or bariatric team, this sits alongside their guidance rather than competing with it.

The patterns we usually find
Weight work almost always turns out to be about one or more of these:
- Eating in response to stress, boredom, loneliness or fatigue rather than hunger
- The evening stretch after dinner that has nothing to do with appetite
- Feeling genuinely unable to stop once a particular food is started
- Losing weight successfully and then regaining it within a year, repeatedly
- A relationship with food that carries guilt, secrecy or a sense of failure
- Eating past fullness because stopping feels like deprivation
The process
How the work is structured
Weight work is usually the longest of the services here, because we’re changing several linked patterns rather than one.
Separate hunger from everything else
We start by mapping when you eat and what’s happening emotionally at the time. Most clients are surprised how little of their eating is driven by physical hunger — and that clarity alone changes behaviour.
Address what food is doing for you
If eating is how you decompress, removing it without a replacement guarantees the change won’t hold. We identify the actual need and build a route to meeting it that doesn’t route through the kitchen.
Recalibrate fullness and craving
In hypnosis we work on the signals themselves — strengthening your awareness of satiety, reducing the intensity of specific cravings, and loosening the compulsion around trigger foods.
Rebuild self-image
This is the part most diets skip and the part that most determines whether results hold. If your internal picture of yourself doesn’t change, your behaviour tends to correct back towards it. We work on that picture directly.
Make movement appealing rather than punitive
Where relevant, we shift exercise from an obligation you owe to something your body wants, which is the only version anyone sustains.
Maintain
Sessions typically space out over time, with self-hypnosis in between, so that the new pattern is tested in real life while support is still available.
Straight talk
An honest word about results
I won’t quote you a number of pounds or a timeline, because anyone who does is guessing. What I can say is that clients who do well here tend to describe the change as food becoming less loud — less negotiation, fewer episodes they regret, more meals that simply end.
Hypnotherapy is not a treatment for eating disorders, and it isn’t a weight-loss medication or procedure. If there are signs of disordered eating, the responsible step is a referral to a licensed clinician, and I will make that call rather than proceed. Hypnotherapy can often support that treatment later, with the clinician’s agreement.
Questions
Frequently asked
Will I be told what I can and can’t eat?
No. This isn’t a diet programme and I’m not qualified to prescribe one. The work is on the patterns and associations driving the eating. Nutrition advice should come from a registered dietitian or your physician.
How is this different from just having more willpower?
Willpower is a conscious resource and it depletes over a day — which is exactly why evenings are hard for most people. Hypnotherapy changes the subconscious associations so that less willpower is required in the first place.
How many sessions does weight work take?
It’s typically longer than other services — often six to ten sessions spaced over a few months — because we’re changing multiple linked patterns and then testing them in real life.
Can hypnotherapy work alongside a GLP-1 medication or bariatric surgery?
Many people combine them, since medication and surgery change appetite but don’t change the emotional role food plays. Tell me what you’re doing and stay in contact with your prescribing physician; I’ll work within their guidance.
